Sac State crushed by UC Riverside 18-2 in nightcap

After the first game of the series supplied a heartbreaking eleven-inning loss for the Hornets, the nighcap of the doubleheader didn't provide much more comfort as Riverside routed Sac State 18-2.
Sac State reliever Brandon Creel was tagged for six runs in 1 1/3 innings to open the flood gates for the Highlanders after Hornet starter Sam Kuykendall allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Catcher Derrick Chung was the only Sac State hitter with more than one hit, going 2-for-2 with a double and a walk in the loss.
Riversides' Vince Gonzalez was 3-for-5 with three RBI while outfielder Justin Shults was 4-for-4 with one RBI.
The teams have two more games scheduled in the series after the Highlanders have taken the first two.
